ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe is at the centre of an "internal grievance" reported to have been made by his personal assistant.

A statement released by the ANC did not confirm the exact nature of the complaint, but EWN reported that it related to sexual harassment.

According to an ANC statement, the ruling party became aware of the complaint last week.

The party claims it has initiated "internal processes" to interrogate the allegations.

Mabe took up the post of ANC spokesperson in February, replacing Zizi Kodwa.

According to a SowetanLIVE report, Mabe had supported Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in her race against Cyril Ramaphosa for the ANC presidency.

Some on Twitter said that they would be watching the situation closely and taking notes ahead of next year's elections.

In the face of the claims, some people have called on Mabe to step down until the investigation is completed.

People also said they would be watching closely to see how the ANC would handle the issue.

Despite an investigation being opened, some have called for Pule to resign.

However, some people have asked that no action be taken until an investigation is completed.
