Public enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan trended on Twitter as many criticised him for trying to evade being cross-examined by axed SA Revenue Service (Sars) boss Tom Moyane at the Zondo commission.

Business Day on Monday reported that Gordhan is fighting a bid by the former Sars head to cross-examine him at the inquiry into state capture on the grounds that Moyane is being used to advance the EFF’s political campaign against him.

Gordhan is said to have pointed out the fact that EFF national chair advocate Dali Mpofu is Moyane’s legal representative.

Moyane has dismissed the claims that he is being used to advance the EFF’s political campaign against Gordhan.

Gordhan appeared before the commission in 2018, where he gave evidence regarding Moyane’s approval of the New Integrated Credit Services (NICS) contract.

The minister received much backlash on social media as some questioned whether he was afraid to be cross-examined.
