More details about the alleged corrupt relationship between controversial prisons facilities company Bosasa and several politicians, including environmental affairs minister Nomvula Mokonyane, emerged at the commission of inquiry into state capture on Thursday.

The commission heard evidence from former Bosasa executive Angelo Agrizzi, who disclosed details around payments made to politicians and cleared up questions which emerged from his initial evidence before the commission.

Agrizzi calculated that the company received about R2.5bn in revenue annually via various contracts stemming from provincial governments, state departments and the private sector between 2000 and 2016.

He says the company forked out about R75m a year on bribes or "gratuities" to secure these contracts and claimed there were about 38 government officials and politicians on Bosasa's payroll.

His testimony sent shockwaves across social media, as users flooded Twitter with reaction.
