Ben Turok wore his Marxist maverick label with pride

Ben Turok, who has died at 92, was a leader of the congress movement in the 1950s who helped write the Freedom Charter and start the armed struggle against apartheid.

But his views often landed him in trouble with the Communist Party and the ANC.
