Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has announced the next local government elections are scheduled between November 2 2026 and February 1 2027. These will be the sixth local government elections since 1994.
The minister revealed the cabinet has approved a formula to determine the number of councillors participating in the elections, in line with the Municipal Structures Act, ensuring a representative governance framework.
As South Africans prepare for the pivotal political event, the interministerial committee will play a key role in setting the stage for smooth and fair elections.
