Chiefs worry Caster, not qualifying

Caster Semenya is more worried about Kaizer Chiefs' chances of winning the Absa Premiership than her own in qualifying for the London Olympics.

"Qualifying is not a problem for me, it's pretty simple," said Semenya, who is adamant she will achieve the required 1min 59.90sec mark to qualify for the Olympics in Pretoria tonight.

She needs only one more qualifying time, to go with that from the World Championships last August, to be sure of her place in the Olympics team.

"There is no pressure because I know I will qualify," she said. "For me the only disappointment is that Chiefs are losing matches that we should be winning easily, like the one against Maritzburg United [when Chiefs lost 1-0 on Tuesday night].

"Chiefs challenging for the league, that's my only worry.

"I watch a lot of soccer when I'm not busy with athletics commitments," said Semenya, who started as a soccer player in Limpopo before switching to athletics.

"Finishing my event under two minutes will definitely happen. I have been working hard. The focus is on speed. The body is fine and I'm enjoying my life," said Semenya.

She is one of the big-name athletes who will compete in the last leg of the 2012 Yellow Pages series at the University of Pretoria's LC de Villiers stadium.

Another top athlete who is chasing qualification time tonight is Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, the 2004 Athens Olympics 800m silver medallist.

After running 1:45.78 in Port Elizabeth last weekend, Mulaudzi is confident he will clock the required 1:45.60 mark tonight. He will need one more qualifying time if he is successful tonight.

"I have always done well in Pretoria; I will qualify," said Mulaudzi.
