If you were hoping to run the ultimate human race this year, your luck is out! The entries were capped at 25,000 this year and six days after Comrades opened entries, they're done.

Race director Rowyn James confirmed the news on Twitter late on Thursday.

South Africans had to fork out R600 for a single entry, Africans R1,500 and other international runners were charged R3,800.

Runners will take to the road on June 9 for the 94th edition of the Comrades.

Twitter responded to the news with mixed reaction. Some warned people not to beg for subs.

Other's poked fun at them "missing" the race.

And some people who missed getting an entry remained optimistic.
