From the highly anticipated match between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to wins by Kaizer Chiefs and Stormers, these are the top sports stories from the weekend.

Orlando Pirates vs Sundowns

Monday night’s match between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will not only see the winning team scoop three points, but will also determine if Sundowns maintain the lead in the premiership. The Bucs are expected to put up a fight to occupy their rival's position. The match will take place at Orlando stadium in Soweto.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Cape Town City

Kaizer Chiefs'  2-0 win against Benni McCarthy’s Cape Town City gained them access to the Nedbank Cup semi-final. The Sowetans'  victory happened at Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, on Sunday. Pule Ekstein and Dumisani Zuma scored the two goals.

Stormers vs Blues

Three months into 2019 and Stormers already have had their ‘best game of the year’ according to the club’s coach, Robbie Fleck - despite losing big time. Fleck spoke his praise after the Stormers' 24-9 loss on Sunday against the Blues in New Zealand. Fleck said he was happy with the match, calling it the best they have played so far this year. “I’m happy with our rhythm in attack and only our final effort let us down.”

Alanzo Khun joins Polokwane City as academy striker

21-year-old Alanzo Khun from Mitchell’s Plain has joined Polokwane City as an academy striker, thanks to a Facebook competition which helped made his dream come true. Khun got to showcase what he is about during a five-week trial across the country, which saw him grab the attention of scouters. Polokwane City offered him a striker position as he delivered a sterling performance during the trial.

Benni McCarthy on Percy Tau

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau, who scored two goals in last week’s match between the national team and Libya, received props from Cape Town City’s Benni McCarthy. The CTC coach said he is glad Tau took his advice prior to the match between Bafana Bafana and Libya. “Percy was outstanding, exceptionally good. He has the capacity; he is a special talent and player.”
