13 October 2016 - 15:58 By Craig Ray

Western Province coach John Dobson had no hesitation in including Springboks Bongi Mbonambi and Juan de Jongh in the starting lineup for Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld. The duo were both on duty for the Boks during last weekend’s Rugby Championship match against the All Blacks in Durban and will now find themselves in a different‚ yet similarly pressurised match. Hooker Mbonambi starts in place of Mikey Willemse‚ who drops to the bench‚ while De Jongh comes in for Johnny Kotze who also takes his place on the bench. In all there are six changes to the WP starting lineup for what is their seventh consecutive Currie Cup semi-final appearance‚ and a replay of last year’s semi‚ which WP won 23-18 in Pretoria. De Jongh starts at outside centre alongside the fit-again Huw Jones in midfield‚ forming an exciting combination.Jones‚ the Scotland international‚ has scored seven tries during this season’s competition. There are two other changes to the backline as Dewaldt Duvenage returns from a hamstring injury to start at scrumhalf.SA Sevens star Werner Kok starts on the right wing‚ with Scott van Breda on the replacements bench. The only changes to the forward pack come in the front row as Mbonambi lines up next to experienced loosehead prop JC Janse van Rensburg. There are also some changes to the replacements with JD Schickerling making his return from a shoulder injury and Stefan Willemse providing loose forward cover. WP are aiming to make it to their fifth consecutive final – the four previous finals have resulted in wins in 2012 and 2014.WP have won the Currie Cup a record 33 times while the Bulls have notched up 23 titles. Dobson said that the returning players have provided a significant boost ahead of the knock-out phase of the competition. “All of the players coming in are top quality‚ so it has been a great week of training in preparation for the trip up to Loftus‚” he said. “We know that we will have to play our best game of the season in order to book our place in a fifth consecutive Currie Cup Final‚ and the players have embraced that challenge."
