A picture of former Springbok rugby coach Peter de Villiers by his daughter Odille Monk's side during one of her chemotherapy sessions has melted the hearts of many.

Twenty-eight-year old Monk, who suffers from lymphoma cancer, has been undergoing chemotherapy sessions since October 2018.

Speaking to Rapport about her support structure, she said that she is grateful for her father, husband and family's support during this hard time.

"My dad said to me he will be next to me the whole time, and he really did sit with me the whole time. The support from my family and husband has been amazing."

She is scheduled to see her doctor again in three weeks' time. De Villiers said being there for his daughter allowed the two some together time. "We chatted a lot and had time to catch up."
