Spurs coach Harry Redknapp will assess Bongani Khumalo during the Vodacom Challenge, but a loan move for the defender is imminent.

Khumalo was signed by the White Hart Lane side in January from former PSL champions Supersport United.

However, after struggling to break into the first team at Spurs, in March the Bafana player was loaned out to Preston North End, who play in the third tier of English football.

According to Spurs ambassador Gary Mabbutt, Khumalo is again expected to be loaned out before the new season starts next month.

This time, Khumalo could go to Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Rangers.

"We don't have a reserve team at Spurs and this makes it difficult for our players to keep fit. So we depend on loans," said Mabbutt.

"Bongani is with us for pre-season preparations and a possible loan move will be looked at before the season starts."

He said Khumalo was still trying to push for a place in the team before their first league match against Everton in August.

"He is a lovely lad and will push for first team action," said the former Spurs player. "He is happy to be at home for the Challenge.

"He has all the qualities to be a great player and, like all our players, he feels the pressure to do better."

Redknapp's assistant coach, Kevin Bond, confirmed that a few teams had asked about a possible loan deal for Khumalo after his impressive spell at Preston.
