The stadium was given the green light nearly three weeks after its completion deadline of July 1. It will have its grand opening on August 6.

Delays in building the Gdansk stadium forced officials to move a  June 9 friendly between Poland and France to Warsaw.

The stadium is one of four Polish venues that will host matches at Euro 2012, which Poland is co-hosting with neighbouring Ukraine.

Both nations have been criticised by UEFA for their slow progress in building infrastructure needed for the tournament.

Polish transportation officials have said nearly half of all Polish roads planned for Euro 2012 may not be ready by deadline.

The country has also grappled with construction delays at a stadium  in Warsaw.

UEFA officials said last month that Poland would be ready for the games despite delays.
