A PSL soccer player was arrested after he was caught driving at 173km/h in Johannesburg, said the Road Traffic Management Corporation.

He was arrested on Friday, said corporation spokesperson Simon Zwane. He declined to disclose any further details of the incident, including the player's name.

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg metro police department said a total of 24 motorists had been arrested for speeding on Johannesburg roads on Friday night.

"We had operations on the N1 in Midrand and Roodepoort," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

All those arrested were taken to the Midrand and Honeydew police stations.

Minnaar could not immediately confirm whether the soccer player was among the two dozen arrested during this operation.
