Tefu Mashamaite’s return to Premier Soccer League has been delayed by knee surgery‚ which means the 2014-15 Player of the Season will not see any action before December‚ SuperSport United officials confirmed on Friday. The 32-year-old centre-back joined SuperSport in August but has yet to play for them since returning from a year in Sweden. He had struggled with a leg injury while at BK Hacken and had surgery earlier this year‚ restricting his number of appearances to just five in the 2016 season before he returned home.He suffered pain in his knee not long after beginning training with SuperSport and a scan revealed some debris. An initial bid at treatment saw Mashamaite make it onto the bench for a single game away against Lamontville Golden Arrows in Durban but the pain did not go away and he had surgery late last month. Mashamaite has a month of rehabilitation and fitness work before being available for selection in December‚ when SuperSport have four matches before the Christmas break‚ including another encounter against neighbours Mamelodi Sundowns.Mashamaite’s last game in the PSL was for Kaizer Chiefs against Chippa United in May last year‚ when Amakhosi secured the title. Mashamaite was named Player of the Season just days later but refused a new deal at Naturena. He had trials in the United States before former coach Stuart Baxter fixed him up with Hacken‚ where he played 12 games in 2015 and five this year. - TMG Digital ..
