Kaizer Chiefs announce Paez signing‚ Mathoho contract extension

Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the signing of Italian striker Gustavo Paez‚ and that they have renewed the contract of star centreback Mulomowandau Mathoho for three years.

In a press statement released on Tuesday afternoon‚ Amakhosi football manager Bobby Motaung said: “We have signed Gustavo Paez on a two and half year deal.

“We invited Paez for trials after identifying him through our scouting network. The team has been playing well and creating ample chances but we’ve struggled to convert them.

“In the period he spent with us on trial‚ we observed aspects that we need in the team.

“He has good technical abilities and is a team player. We welcome him and wish him all of the best.

“There are no guarantees in football but we are confident that he will form part of the solution in our goal scoring area.”

The statement continued: “Paez (26)‚ Venezuelan national with an Italian passport‚ arrived in Naturena as a free agent. Paez played the last two seasons for Venezuela’s Sociedad Civil Estudiantes De Merida FC.”

Chiefs said in the statement that Mathoho has extended his contract‚ which was to run until June‚ until 2020.

“We are glad ‘Tower’ has signed a new deal with us‚” Motaung said.

“Tower signed a three-year extension to his existing contract.”

Good news‚ the ‘Tough as Teak’ defender has committed to remain at Naturena until 2020.

Chiefs have so far kept the most clean sheets in the league and are amongst the teams that conceded the least number of goals‚ twelve from fifteen matches in the league.

The club revealed that discussions have started on contract extensions with midfielder Lucky Baloyi and left-back Tsepo Masilela.

Midfielder Enocent Mkhabela has been loaned back to to Platinum Stars. Negotiations are ongoing to release strikers Edward Manqele and Siphelele Mthembu from their contracts.
