Why Dove Wome does not want to go back to Supersport
Dove Wome would like to make Orlando Pirates his home after struggling to settle down at SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Togolese forward joined the Buccaneers in January on loan from Matsatsantsa a Pitori.
The Tshwane side argued he was too good to be sitting on the bench as Stuart Baxter said he couldn’t guarantee him regular game time nor did he fit in his game plan.
Wome made a seamless transition to Pirates becoming a symbol of hope in their disastrous campaign.
“I wish this can be home‚” Wome said.
“If the decision was only up to me‚ I know what I would decide on. I am still waiting for both clubs to decide what is the next step.”
Wome has an opportunity to endear himself to the Ghost by helping the Buccaneers get the better of SuperSport on Saturday in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
A place in the Caf Confederation Cup next year is up for grabs for the winner along with ending on a good note a season that promised much but delivered little.
Pirates have unfinished business in the Confederation Cup.
The last time they were there‚ in 2015 after winning the Nedbank Cup in Durban in 2014‚ they lost in the final to Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.
It’s that continental pedigree that has swayed Wome to warm up to the idea of joining the Buccaneers on a permanent basis.
“Both are good clubs but Pirates are bigger than SuperSport in Africa‚” Wome said.
“Everyone wants to play for a big club.
"But it depends on how much they want you. If they really want you‚ they will show up and we will take it from there. Pirates have a big profile in the continent. Everyone knows them.
“If you play for a big team like Pirates and you are a regular‚ the national team selectors know that they have to call you up.
"But Pirates need to be playing in Africa for them to help me with increasing my profile and chances of returning to the Togo national team.
"To be in Africa we have to win this cup. I am dying to be back in the national team. The last time I went there it was for a friendly.
"I couldn’t go for a qualifier because of family reasons. I will be there in the next qualifier.”
Before he can think about that 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin next year‚ there is the small matter of the final where Kjell Jonevret will be looking to get the best out of Wome.
“To get the best out of me‚ it depends on my motivation‚” Wome said.
“I am very motivated for this game. I will do well. You will see the best out of me. I know each and every player at SuperSport.
"I know how they play and how they move. That will help me and the team.”
