Violence erupted at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday night as angry fans stormed the pitch after Kaizer Chiefs bombed out of the Nedbank Cup following a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Free State Stars.

With about 15 minutes left of the game, objects began to rain down on the Chiefsโ€™ bench, so much so that a police car was driven onto the side of the field.

A security guard was badly beaten by pitch invaders as police retreated and he got caught by hooligans, who laid into him.

A security guard is reportedly fighting for his life after being badly injured when Kaizer Chiefs fans rioted after the loss to Free State Stars at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

The Nedbank was the only available chance for Chiefs to end a barren three years without winning silverware.

Twitter of course wasted no time slamming the incident and calling for the club, and its beleaguered coach, to be punished for their fans' behaviour.
