Attacking Chippa United midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba will be out to quench his thirst for goals when his side faces Kaizer Chiefs in soccer’s Nedbank Cup last 16 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday (6pm).
The 24-year-old from Motherwell has four goals for the season, with his recent success being the brace he scored during Chippa’s 4-1 win against Magesi in the league.
After finishing the league with the same amount of goals under his belt for the whole of last season, Kwayiba has set a 10-goal target this time.
And he will be looking to add to his collection against Amakhosi on Saturday.
“I still want to score more goals. I have set a target for myself and I haven’t reached it yet, so there is still more work to be done,” Kwayiba said.
“My target is to get a Bafana Bafana call-up again this season. I know it won’t be easy but I am going to keep working hard.
“There are so many games left to be played so I have set a 10-goal target for myself.
“I want to improve every season and I believe I am on the right path to achieving that goal.”
The Gqeberha side have been on the road for nearly two weeks after playing three successive away league fixtures, returning with only three points.
They lost 1-0 to Polokwane City but bounced back with a victory over struggling Magesi.
They then had another 1-0 defeat against TS Galaxy.
Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys go into the fixture undefeated in two matches, with their latest result being a 1-0 win against Stellenbosch.
“This game against Chiefs is going to be a nice match. It’s not going to be an easy game for both teams because we have been preparing hard for this game,” Kwayiba said.
“I can see the players are motivated and I believe we can do it.
“Also, the camp that we had gelled us well together and it helped us understand each other better.
“I believe we can win against Chiefs, but all that depends on us and how much we want it.”
The Chilli Boys beat Golden Arrows 2-1 to book their place in the last 16 of the cup competition.
Last season, the Gqeberha side beat TS Galaxy 2-0 in the quarterfinals but lost 3-1 to Orlando Pirates in the semis.
The last time the Chilli Boys reached the final of the cup competition was in 2021, losing 1-0 to Tshakhuma (TTM).
