Imagine creating a calm and inviting space in your home that feels like a hug when you enter a room after a long, stressful day with something as simple as repainting a room. Warm Embrace, Dulux's new colour of the year for 2024, personifies just that and much more — this welcoming pastel hue reflects extensive research into global consumer trends which found we're all feeling the need for a sense of belonging. With that in mind Dulux created this welcoming colour palette to remedy our uncertain and often fearful state of mind.
As part of the 2024 colour report, the Dulux in-house colour experts worked with leading global design experts to identify three leading trends and colour stories around the Sweet Embrace colour swatch. To assist consumers with creating harmonious and on-trend spaces that reflect the unique qualities of this calming hue, these different colour palettes can help us create a much needed sense of calm, comfort and joy in our homes and everyday lives.

“Our Colour of the Year 2024, Sweet Embrace is a delicate, welcoming, and soothing tone that brings a sense of stability and softness to a space. Sweet without being saccharine, it works beautifully as a stand-alone shade and can also act as a positive foundation for a host of other shades,” says Dulux colour expert Palesa Ramaisa.
The first is a Warm Colour story consisting of warmer earthy tones such as clay, stone and soil to help you feel safe and comfortable in a space. The Calm Colour story embodies the essence of life with cooler tones of soft greens and blues inspired by the ocean and forest to create a quiet and meditative space that instils peace and appreciation for the simple joys in life. The Third Colour story evokes uplifting and light hearted feelings with a modern palette of powdery pastels such as soft lilac and yellow to create an energising and joyful space.
“As we try to redefine our place in the world while searching for meaning, simplicity and moments of joy, it’s important to create a space where we feel completely at ease — a place where we belong. This year’s Colour of the Year and its complementary palettes promise to achieve just that with useful ease. We hope it inspires you to transform your home into a beautiful space to reset, refocus and rediscover your strength,” adds Nathalie Sweeney, marketing director for Dulux Paints, Sub-Saharan Africa.
