Nissan has showcased an array of new and refreshed models for various regions, with the next-generation Micra. The upcoming line-up includes new Infiniti models available with combustion engines, hybrids, plug in electric hybrids (Phev) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) and the new Leaf.
The first-generation Nissan Leaf unveiled in August 2009 was the world's first mass-market produced BEV. Two generations of the model have been spawned and only the first generation was marketed in South Africa. The Leaf could travel 160km from a 24kW battery with home-charging capability from a domestic electric socket.
It was driven by an 80kW single electric motor and the bulbous shape could fit three adults in the back. In an unprecedented agreement struck locally, Nissan and BMW — the only two manufacturers selling fully electric vehicles (EVs) in South Africa at the time — joined forces to share charging infrastructure.
The third-generation model will be launched in the US and Canada first. It’s a sleeker, more spacious family crossover with a more advanced EV architecture and increased driving range. As a first, Nissan said North American customers of the Leaf will be able to charge their Nissan EV using the Tesla Supercharger network.
Patrol
The new Patrol — the brand’s large-size luxury off-roader with a storied 70-year history — is also earmarked for South African introduction in 2025. The new model is powered by a new V6 twin-turbo engine and featuring adaptive air suspension for enhanced off-roading.

Micra
The new Micra will form part of a trio of new BEVs to be launched in Europe. The nameplate returns in more stylish form and is produced in collaboration with group cousins Renault. Sales of the new Micra will begin before the end of the year in Europe exclusively.
Additionally the new, electric Nissan Juke will be added to the European range. The modern iteration of the much-loved and stocky urban crossover was previewed by the “Hyper Punk” concept car.

India
Nissan said it will strengthen its presence in India’s rapidly growing market with two new models, starting with an MPV in 2025 and a new five-seat crossover SUV in 2026. The significance of the Indian market is that Nissan’s joint venture plant in Chennai builds the Magnite, thus the unnamed new crossover will also be exported to global markets, including the Middle East, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Africa.
Nissan SA’s communications team said talks about reintroducing the new Leaf, Micra and Juke in South Africa have not been finalised. However, the local subsidiary that recently launched the new Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior confirms the return of the Navara Stealth nameplate in June.
The previous Stealth model started off as a Navara LE (Luxury Edition) with black wheels, adding silver, chrome and orange detail and accents on the grille, front bumper, side mirrors and side steps.
