While excited “sex athletes” may be warming up to take part in the European Sex Championship reported to start on Thursday in Sweden, it seems their excitement may be based on a falsehood.
Dragan Bratic, 52, the self-proclaimed president of the Swedish Sex Federation, on Wednesday still maintained that sex was recognised by Sweden as a sport and that the first European Sex Championship would kick off the following day.
“Sweden officially recognised sex as a sport, and why not? If you fight someone outside a bar or a nightclub you can go to prison, but if you enter the boxing ring this becomes legalised assault. Sex is far healthier than boxing,” Bratic told TimesLIVE Premium on Wednesday.
“It is the same with computer games. If you sit at home playing it is just fun, but if you enter a formal competition it is classified as sport and our government gives money to their organisation.”
TimesLIVE Premium, however, found several online mentions and stories denying Bratic’s claim that sex had been recognised as sport in Sweden.
In January this year, Swedish news platform TV4 published a short story referring to Bratic’s plans.
“The infamous ‘Strip King’, Dragan Bratic from Habo, wants sex to be classified as any sport, where practitioners can compete and train,” the publication wrote.
“Dragan is chairman of the sex association, which is now applying for membership and has sent in a request to the national sports association.”
According to TV4, Björn Eriksson, chair of the national sports federation, made it clear that sex was not part of their business. “I hope this nonsense goes away. It will be a unanimous no from us,” Eriksson reportedly told TV4.
On Tuesday, Indian media company New Delhi Television also reported that Bratic’s claims were bogus.
“The federation's application to become a member of the National Sports Confederation was denied. Mr Bratic had submitted the application in January this year,” the company reported.
Bratic denies these reports and said he still sees his plan as a positive project.
“The Swedish Sex Foundation works successfully to organise and educate peaceful people who want to train and compete in the most peaceful thing on earth — sex.”
Asked to provide proof of the federation’s registration as a sporting code, Bratic did not respond.
But he said the European Sex Championship will consist of 16 disciplines and will be live-streamed.
These events include seduction; massaging different parts of the body; how fast one competitor can make another competitor feel attracted to him or her; foreplay; oral sex; and the artistic performance of sex acts.
He said the championships would be streamed live.
The Swedish Sports Federation did not reply to questions.
