The family of murdered teenager Likhona Fose, whose mutilated body was found in Durban Deep, does not believe only one person was involved in the murder of their child.
Speaking outside the Roodepoort magistrate's court, Likhona Fose’s grandfather Thozamile Mlenze said the family prays their late child will expose the people behind her murder.
“It is obvious that more people are going to be implicated in this murder case, we hope all can be exposed. She must fight for herself and strengthen whoever will be handling the case.
“I do not believe one person committed the murder. But whether it was one person or more, all we want is the murderer,” he said.
Mduduzi Trevor Mnisi, 39, was charged after Fose’s body was discovered in Durban Deep on June 1. Fose left her home on May 31 and did not return.
Mnisi testified on Tuesday during his bail hearing that he had no involvement in the incident, complied with parole conditions and requested that his girlfriend be called as a witness to confirm his alibi.
Mnisi claimed to have been in Daveyton, some 60km away, on the day of the incident, and he has been wrongly arrested.
He said he would abide by any bail conditions put in place by the court should he be granted bail.
However, on Wednesday, the court heard that the witness, who is Mnisi's girlfriend, wasn't in court and couldn't be located to testify.
The case was postponed to July 2 for the continuation of the bail application and for the state to follow up on new evidence
Mlenze said he was happy that Mnisi would continue to appear in court, but the family wasn't fully satisfied because there had been numerous postponements, and new information kept being uncovered.
“We are still observing the proceedings and trust that justice will prevail. As a family, we did not point out a suspect. He was arrested, and we believe the law must take its course.
“We are going home, but we are not happy because we thought there would be something solid that would come out of court today,” he said.
He said their wish was that whoever killed their child would be found guilty and that person would be jailed.
He said he wasn't satisfied with Mnisi's testimony because some of the things that were said did not make sense.
“I know the accused. We did not suspect Mdu [Mnisi] of the murder. He is part of the community and believed he would protect the community. We were shocked when he was arrested,” he added.
