It’s a tough one, but which book would you bag if asked to choose? And please don’t say the latter

I recently contemplated that old chestnut: which book would you take to a bunker, desert island or prepper spot in New Zealand?

It came up when my partner and I were watching The Outsiders. We decided to download it because I couldn’t believe he had never read or heard of the 1967 book written by a then 15-year-old SE Hinton, on which the movie is based. A novel I must have read more than 20 times when I was 13 years old. Nor had he heard of the 1983 classic melodrama directed by Francis Ford Coppola until we listened to a podcast, Meeting Tom Cruise (which is good fun if you think Cruise is the greatest movie star of all time, which he really is). ..
