Transnet offers strikers 11%

Transnet yesterday appealed to its workers to consider seriously its offer of an 11% salary increase.

"We believe our latest and revised offer is both fair and generous," said spokesman John Dludlu.

The SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union, which represents 45% of Transnet workers, rejected the offer and embarked on a nationwide strike at 6am yesterday. It is holding out for a 15% increase.

The SA Petroleum Industry Association said it had spoken to its member companies about the Transnet strike and all had confirmed that contingency plans were in place to limit fuel-supply disruptions.
