Times Media Group welcomes three new executives

Times Media Group (TMG) has welcomed three new executives who will contribute to the digital‚ broadcast and print divisions of the company.

Lisa MacLeod‚ Philani Mgwaba and Vernon Matzopolous are well-known for their work in the media industry.

MacLeod will be the head of Digital from September 1. She will drive the digital strategy for TMG’s online platforms and the integration with print at TMG.

MacLeod returned to South Africa last year after almost 12 years at the Financial Times (FT) in London‚ where she helped shape and execute the FT’s digital strategy.

Her early career includes reporting at the Daily Dispatch and later becoming managing editor at Business Day.

Mgwaba will be group executive‚ editorial - TMG. He will work closely with editors in the group to support editorial teams in remaining relevant and market leading content generators.

He was the founding editor of Independent's biggest newspaper‚ Isolezwe‚ and played a leading role in the launch of its Sunday edition‚ Isolezwe ngeSonto. Mgwaba has also edited the Pretoria News‚ the Sunday Tribune and The Mercury‚ where he started his journalism career as a cub reporter 24 years ago.

Matzopolous will spearhead the broadcasting division of TMG.

His previous work in the broadcasting industry include launching Summit TV on Multichoice in 1999‚ which is now known as Business Day TV on DSTV channel 412; expanding the television business further in 2005 with the launch of the Home Channel (DSTV Channel 176) in the lifestyle space and the launch of Ignition TV in 2008 (DSTV Channel 189).

Along the way‚ Vernon also set up a radio division‚ supplying general‚ business and entertainment content for nine commercial stations.
