Trade deficit widens to 21.39 bln rand in October, rand tumbles

South Africa's trade deficit widened more than expected to 21.39 billion rand ($1.5 billion) in October from a revised 1.26 billion rand shortfall in September, the national revenue agency said on Monday.
Exports decreased by 6 percent to 86.35 billion rand, while imports jumped by 15.7 percent to 107.74 billion rand on a month-on-month basis, the South African Revenue Service said.
The rand fell to a record low of 14.4600 by 1212 GMT after the data was released.
