Christo Wiese is the wealthiest man in the country with R81.26-billion, according to Who Owns Whom's Rich List, which compiled for Business Times, for the second consecutive year after unseating Glencore CEO Ivan Glasenberg in 2014.

Ironically, Weise is also the biggest loser — after the value of his shareholdings, in for example, Brait, Shoprite and Steinhoff International to name a few, fell by R23.5-billion from a year ago.

JSE-listed companies - director's remuneration

The remuneration table reflects their earnings disclosed in the associated annual reports and results for the 2015 financial year. The Rich List research was compiled by Who Owns Whom for Business Times.

Please note: In a previous version of the below table, Who Owns Whom incorrectly stated that Kevin Hedderwick's salary for the 2015 financial year amounted to R45,991m. In fact, his fixed remuneration for that year was R4.591 million.  The error occurred as a result of a data capturing fault which wasn’t picked up by quality control.  Who Owns Whom endeavours to provide the highest quality of research and we greatly regret this error and any embarrassment caused as a result.
