Sim Tshabalala had previously likened his partnership of "shared responsibility" with his former co-captain to that of a well-functioning couple. But after Ben Kruger stepped down from the chief executive role this week, he slid comfortably into singledom. "Speaking to you today it would seem that it is appropriate to have a single CEO and it is appropriate that it be me," said Tshabalala, seated at the head of a boardroom table at Standard Bank's Johannesburg head office. "I would not accept the job if it was not appropriate."
