Trade union FEDUSA will demand the immediate removal of Steinhoff’s audit committee chairperson Steve Booysen on Friday by picketing outside the company’s annual general meeting.

In a press statement‚ the Federation of Unions of South Africa said they will be joined by the Health and Other Services Personnel Trade Union of South Africa (HOSPERSA)‚ the Public Servants Association of South Africa (PSA)‚ the South African Abet Educators Union (SAAEU)‚ the Suid-Afrikaanse Onderwysersunie (SAOU)‚ the South African Parastatal and Tertiary Institutions Union (SAPTU)‚ the United National Public Service Association of South Africa and Allied Workers Union (UNIPSAWU) and the National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa).

Other concerned stakeholders will also join is as they call for the removal of Booysen. FEDUSA said they will also be taking up the issue of the appointment of a new board following last year’s accounting irregularities levelled against Steinhoff’s former CEO‚ Markus Jooste. Jooste has subsequently resigned from the company. The trade union said the corporate scandal resulted in “95 percent wiped off its share value‚ made up mostly of public servants pensions”.
