Platinum mines set for tough pay talks

Wage negotiations started in the platinum sector this week but some analysts do not expect the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) to secure its demand for a basic monthly wage of R17,000, even though platinum prices have risen.

This week's negotiations came on the back of a five-month gold strike at Sibanye-Stillwater, where Amcuwalked away without the R12,500 wage it had demanded...
