Police have arrested three men in connection with the death of a commercial farmer in Mashonaland West.

Kobus Joubert, 67, was shot dead and his wife Mariana, 64, was assaulted by assailants who also robbed them of $10000 in cash, two mobile phones and two pistols. When attackers beat up Joubert's wife, they took her laptop and accused her family of being members of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change.

Police say the farmer could have been gunned down with a revolver and a pistol found in the suspects' possession.

"We have arrested three men in connection with the murder of Jacobs," said police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka.

The arrested were identified as Nqobani Tshuma, Daniel Nyakuedzwa and Mandla Maphosa.

At the time of the murder, the Commercial Farmers Union believed it politically motivated.

Mandipaka said they had not found any evidence to indicate that it was a politically motivated crime. "The suspects have no links to any political party. The problem with criminals is that when they attack white citizens they claim to be doing so politically."
