THEATRE

.The musical, which will run from December 10 to 17, depicts the lives of people who leave their homes for the big city. It shows their struggle to survive the tough urban living conditions, their dreams and disappointments. Tickets are R70 and available at Computicket.

COMEDY

.FOR a fun night out, make sure you see Curry on Laughing. Drawing on their own life experiences, South African performers Jailoshini Naidoo, Eubulus Tracy and Sans Moonsamy will entertain you with their fast-paced, over-the-top comic sketches. In aid of the Actonville Child and Family Welfare Society, the comedy will take place at the Bazm-E-Adab Hall, Actonville, Benoni, Gauteng, on Saturday at 8pm. CONCERT

.AS world leaders descend on Durban for the COP17 climate- change talks, the public can get involved with the Climate Change Concert and Rally taking place today. Archbishop Desmond Tutu has urged South Africans to get involved in this afternoon's concert in support of successful climate- change talks. Musicians include HHP, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Arno Carstens, Gcine Mhlophe and Kenyan gospel rapper Juliani. It takes place at Kings Park Rugby Stadium, Durban, at noon today. .FOR local talent, catch the Summer Feva Concert being held to raise funds for the nonprofit Youth Film Development Project. Performing on stage will be Rajiv Mothie, hip-hop star Verd, Jae, comedian Senzo Mthethwa, "Chatsworth and Phoenix Got Talent" winners Luwandan and Meghan, and a special guest appearance by the Soap Girls from Cape Town. The concert is part of a special drug-awareness campaign and takes place at the Golden Horse Casino, Pietermaritzburg, on Saturday from 8pm until 10pm. FUNDRAISING

.THE Friends of the Umhlanga Hindu Society are hosting a charity golf day, with profits going towards developing the Universal Place of Worship and Spiritual Resource Centre in Somerset Park, Umhlanga Rocks. .THE KwaZulu-Natal Musicians Trust Fund is holding a fund-raising concert this week. Local bands Scrapmetal, Last Addiction, Mother Nature's Son, East Coast Basement Blues Band, Amanzi-mtexas and Bytsize will perform. HEALTH

.TIBA, an organisation that provides services for the blind, is hosting its annual open health day today. The event will be supported by the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa and the Muslim Aids Programme. The public will be able to access a variety of medical services such as eye screening; blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol testing; podiatry and occupational therapy. BALLET

.PYOTR Tchaikovsky's enchanting Sleeping Beauty will be brought to life in a magical ballet with a score by the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The classic tale is about a princess who is placed under a spell by a wicked fairy. She falls into a deep sleep and can only be awakened by a Prince's kiss. The ballet is on at the South African State Theatre, Pretoria, until December 18. Tickets range from R55 to R250 and booking is through Computicket.

RELIGIOUS

.THE celebration of the Ratha Yatra Festival of Chariots will take place next month. Hosted by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, the event commemorates the meeting between the Hindu god Krishna and Srimati Radharani, his most beloved devotee. The function takes place at the Gandhi Hall, Lenasia, Gauteng, on Saturday and Sunday. A variety of foods will be on offer, and there will also be free vegetarian dishes.
