Rosie Motene is an actor, producer and Pan-African talent agent.

Where did you spend your last holiday?

Koh Samui, Thailand.

What was the best thing you did while there?

Hired a moped and went on a journey of discovery. I found temples, secret gardens and waterfalls; and I stopped for cheap massages. I was also the only black person on the island so everywhere I went people would scream "Halooo Souf Africa!" in a cute Thai accent.

Your favourite city abroad, and why?

New York. It's loud, vibrant and crazy.

What must a first-time visitor see there?

Go to Times Square and catch a production on Broadway.

What should they not bother with?

Sleep.

What was your best holiday, ever?

Thailand. I went alone and had time to reflect and give thanks for all that I have.

And your worst? What happened?

Mozambique, 2001. I was allergic to my malaria medication, so every morning I would wake up, take it and spend at least two hours hurling.

The worst hotel you have stayed in?

A place in downtown Los Angeles. The reception area had bars on and the room doors had double padlocks.

The best thing you have been given on holiday . or pinched from a hotel?

An upgrade. When checking into a hotel in Senegal, they asked me if I was miss, mrs or princess. I said princess in a sarcastic way, and got upgraded to a suite.

Your fantasy holiday companion and why?

Jon Bon Jovi. I still believe he is the sexiest man alive and he could sing me to sleep every night.

Your favourite SA destination, and why?

Plettenberg Bay. It reminds me of my late adoptive father.

The most exotic dish you have ever eaten on holiday?

Crumbed catfish at a restaurant in LA.

One place you want to see before you die?

Paris, but only when I'm in love.

Your best piece of travel advice?

Befriend the staff at the hotel, find out where they hang out. Make friends with cab drivers and get invited to people's homes.
