The mutant gene exists, and it can be seen in all its glory in Cirque Éloize, on at the Teatro at Montecasino. Forget the Spiderman "upside down kiss" - now there's the "descend-to-mouth-while- balancing-upside-down-on-your-hands-kiss". And it's only one spectacle in this amazing show's opening act.

Some of the mortals that came along to enjoy the freak show included stage royalty Samantha Peo and Emmanuel Castis. Joining them on VIP night were newbie schlebs Wardah Hartley and presenter Cyprian Ndlovu, who kept it real in hip-hop attire. Thankfully, some people still believe in dressing up for the theatre. Included here was Letoya Makhene, who rocked a fierce black jumpsuit. Phroaw!

Back on stage, veteran DJ Alex Jay was plucked from the audience to take part in an act that included a bicycle balancing precariously around his nether region. Gulp.

After the show some of the performers joined the awe-struck hangers-on, whereupon the very flexible Emi Vauthey rewarded us by lifting her leg to the heavens on cue. As you do. - Thembalethu Zulu
