This kilometre-long bike path in Nuenen, the Netherlands, is illuminated by solar-powered LEDs as well as by an innovative paint that charges in daylight and shines at night.

The swirling patterns are based on the brush-strokes of Vincent van Gogh, who lived in Nuenen from 1883 to 1885. The path was created by Studio Roosegaarde, a social design laboratory that is also researching "smart highways", which could potentially charge electric cars while they move and alert drivers to hazards.
