Join Sphectacula and Naves for an early Youth Day bash
DJs Sphectacula and Naves will be hosting a Youth Day party with a philanthropic twist on Monday night.
The television and radio show hosts are passionate about giving back to the community.
“There was a time we didn’t have much ourselves,” said DJ Naves. “It is not nice to see people struggle.”
Established three years ago, their trust, Young ‘n Free, hosts an annual Youth Day celebration, with a portion of the funds going towards a number of causes close to their hearts.
Following successful events in 2013 and 2014, this year’s affair hopes to be the biggest yet, with an expected 5000 people in attendance.
DJ Sphectacula feels the celebration is not just another party.
“We want it to be edutainment. We have a timeline tunnel at the venue, a video loop during the event, all highlighting our history,” said DJ Sphe.
Over R 40 0000 has been raised in the past two years. Benefactors include the Kliptown Children’s Homes, Umephi in Dobsonville, Thembelenkosi in Soweto and the St Janes De Chanel in Rivonia. A target of R100 000 from ticket sales has been set, with the event’s partners also challenged to add 10% to their sponsorship contribution.
“This year we also have a child headed home we are helping,” said Dj Naves.
To tap into a youth that might be somewhat removed from the history, the pair believe that it is important to keep the celebrations current by attracting the kind of artists that appeal to them.
The concert will be hosted by Minnie Dlamini and Nomuzi Mabena. Some of the acts that will grace the stage will be Cassper Nyovest, Ricky Rick, Big Nuz Euphonik, Tira and Lulo Café.
The concert will be held in association with Metro FM and MTV Base at the Expo Centre Nasrec on June 15 at 6pm.
Tickets available from Computicket.
