Capetonians will get the chance to ride in a McLaren 650S on Friday afternoon in Uber's latest on-demand promotion.

For three hours users of the service in the Mother City can request a free ride in the supercar that has a top speed of 333km/h and goes 0-100 in three seconds.

This is the latest offering from Uber's on-demand service - the previous promotion offered free ice cream countrywide (and not just any ice cream, but the super-hip, artisanal Paul's Homemade Ice Cream).

This time they've partnered with men's magazine GQ.

Uber's Samantha Allenberg told the Sunday Times: "This on-demand is happening in Cape Town only, but we will of course look to roll this out in other cities in South Africa. It is a very exciting on-demand so no doubt Joburg, Durban and Pretoria would love it if we rolled it out there soon."

Allenberg says users should keep an eye on the company's social media channels, although we reckon whoever got this ride in Joburg would spend it stuck in traffic somewhere.

The promotion is open to both new and existing Uber users.

"Riders must enter the promo code UberMcLarenSA to unlock the unique view. Spots are limited, so fastest fingers first!" said Allenberg.

The promotion will run from 12pm to 3pm on Friday, and rides are limited to 5km. As the McLaren 650S is not an SUV, only one passenger can be accommodated at a time.

We hope The Stig will be the one behind the wheel.
