'Stranger Things 2' gets off to a slow start, but hang in there, it's well worth watching

After the first season became a sleeper hit for Netflix last year, there's been plenty of expectation about the Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things 2. Released last week, the second season continues to deliver plenty of Goonies-style adventure with a dark twist of horror to satisfy fans of the original just in time for Halloween.
With its gangly bunch of geeky kid heroes, its small-town setting and its generally well-maintained balance of kooky humour and creepy eeriness, the series is a perfect homage to the world of '80s movies pioneered by Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter in the days when Ronald and Nancy were in love in the White House, men like Donald Trump were making pot loads of money and the blockbuster was the king of the multiplex.
There are references to everything from ET to Stand by Me, Poltergeist and Halloween in the Duffers' loving homage to the films of their childhood...
