No song and dance as young artists lauded

With alumni including William Kentridge, Johnny Clegg, Sibongile Khumalo and Paul Slabolepszy, the Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year is known for propelling talented up-and-comers to household names.
I was looking forward to seeing who cracked the nod this year as I made my way to Kramerville, that area outside Sandton popularised by decor companies and event venues, to attend this year's event.
The first person I greet on the rooftop deck of one of the strip's nicer venues, levelthree, is one of the art world's biggest loud-hailers, radio personality Michelle Constant.
"I'm giving up heels for the rest of the year," announces the Business and Arts South Africa head, putting forward her foot to show off the sneakers she has teamed with her pretty pink sun dress.
Someone who points her feet for a living, and is one of the most successful recent recipients of the award, is Dada Masilo.
We chat about the bleskop artist's frantic schedule - she'd just come back from a European tour (including an ovation at the Romaeuropa Festival) before heading to the US - before making our way downstairs where MC Pabi Moloi starts proceedings...
