Director Aaron Sorkin pulls together a show-stopping cast for Molly's Game

A strong cast of character actors and the perfect central pairing of Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba scoops the pot, writes Tymon Smith

If, like me, you're an Aaron Sorkin fan, then you'll be used to the writer's particular brand of fast talking, whip-your-brain-back-and-forth, big-ideas dialogue in films such as A Few Good Men, The Social Network, Steve Jobs and of course everyone's favourite slice of corridor-careening American political idealism, The West Wing.
As a writer Sorkin has always been interested in characters whose occupation of positions of power leads to a conflict between their private and public personas.
In the true story of Molly Bloom, a former top-tier American skier who became notorious in the noughties as the runner of several multimillion-dollar poker games that drew in celebrities and Wall Street bankers, Sorkin has found the perfect material to push him from behind his desk to moving behind the camera as director.
