In Wakanda, Afro-chic rules

It might be a citadel to all things faux Tuscan, but on Friday, at Montecasino in Fourways, we were transported to the land of Wakanda for the South African premiere of Black Panther.
At the complex, under a giant sign announcing the Marvel Studios blockbuster and in front of the blue carpet, the first person I greet is Lalla Hirayama, in a dramatic gold dress by David Tlale with a sky-high slit.
Where's Kent, I ask, at which Lalla points to her M-Net Movies camera crew and explains: "I'm working."
Then it's a quick hello to e.tv breakfast host Penny Lebyane, single gal Melanie Bala, there with bestie Estelle Baffoe, while out of the corner of my eye I spot actress Thembisa Mdoda on her phone.
Meanwhile, arriving on that carpet I see John Kani holding court with Panther cast mates Connie Chiume and Danai Gurira.
A vision in tangerine wafts past and I recognise Lupita Nyong'o, that first daughter of our African soil to land an Oscar, making her way to be interviewed in front of a phalanx of cameras...
