FULL REVIEW:
One of life's simple pleasures, if you're into this kind of thing, is sitting around with a group of friends and talking nonsense about sports. This includes overanalysing on-field decisions, confidently throwing out wild opinions like you know better than the team's coach and coming up with wild conspiracies about why things at your favourite club are the way they are. Intersperse that with some ribald banter, and fun is guaranteed. Flagrant 2 is pretty much exactly that.
Hosted by two comedians and their wrestling-obsessed friend, Flagrant 2 is a weekly dissection of the goings on in the US sports universe. Before you start wondering who in South Africa cares about US sports, remember that our country has a passionate and fast-growing basketball fan base, especially among the cool urban set. SuperSport also regularly screens the Super Bowl, which is us football's equivalent of the Champions League final. The trio are not just limited to basketball and baseball. They talk boxing, wrestling and the odd bit of tennis.
Part of the appeal of the show can be gleaned from its tagline, "analysis for assholes", which essentially serves as a warning to the faint of heart. This is not a show for card-carrying members of woke Twitter. It is often juvenile, crass and can veer far out of the realm of sports, but in all honesty that is the hallmark of sports banter among mates.
They are not supposed to be conversations that one has outside of your circle of friends because they're built on the kind of fast and loose shit-talking that binds a group of friends together. Plus, the show is fun because of the tinfoil hat conspiracy theories - AKA hot takes - that the hosts posit. So even if you have no interest in US sports it's just entertaining to hear three idiots talking nonsense, perhaps because it reminds you of how you and your own friends interact...
