The first-ever Sunday Times Lifestyle Gin Awards were held this year to celebrate the creators of locally and internationally crafted gins. In a nationwide blind-tasting, held in Makro stores, and against respected premium international gin brands such as Hendricks, Gin Mare and Gordon’s London Dry, South African gin lovers voted Tanqueray London Dry as the best international gin.

Tanqueray marketing manager Kyle Lesch says: “As the world of gin continues to grow with new gin brands launching almost every week, it’s getting ever more confusing about which one to choose. This award proves that South African consumers are as discerning as consumers worldwide, and that when it comes to gin, taste is what really matters.”

The definitive taste of Tanqueray is being recognised and awarded globally too.

When put to a blind test at the 2018 World Class Global Bartender of the Year Competition, 90% of bartenders who were surveyed at the event chose the Tanqueray London Dry and tonic over the leading competitor.

“For nearly 200 years, Tanqueray has paid unwavering attention to taste and quality over anything else. Back in 1830 our founder, Charles Tanqueray searched the globe for the world’s best ingredients, ultimately choosing juniper, coriander, angelica and liquorice for his iconic perfectly balanced Tanqueray London Dry.”

Tanqueray master distiller Terry Fraser, based in Cameronbridge, Scotland, says: “At Tanqueray we are driven by quality, with only one in 10 of all botanicals received at the distillery having the superiority and characteristics to go into Tanqueray.

“It is this attention to detail and the perfect balance of botanicals that really makes our taste unmistakable – trust me once you’ve experienced Tanqueray, you’ll never look at gin the same way again.”
