Instagram fails: influencers show the hazards of snapping the #perfect pic
Cautionary tales show being a #influencer isn’t always glamorous
Repeat after us: “Social media is not real! Social media is not real! Social media …”
Yes, we are finally being honest about the fact that the everyday “reality” portrayed in those amazing snaps on social media is not, in fact, reality at all.
Trending hashtags like #realmommies and celeb-endorsed, no-make-up selfies are helping to lift the veneer off those too-good-to-be-true photos.
Instagram influencers are the latest to jump on the “shatter the illusion” bandwagon. Some of the most followed individuals have taken to posting about their #fails, showing us that not only are the pics not reflective of real life but capturing the perfect snap isn’t always as effortless as it seems.
BE CAREFUL OF YOUR PROPS
Fitness influencer Michelle Lewin recently posted a video showing her taking a picture on a beautiful beach in the Bahamas when a pig not only gets in the way but bites her on the behind. Her screams seem to summon Porky's friends and she ends up being chased by a sounder of swine. A subsequent video shows the scar the incident left on her backside.
HELL'S TEETH, KATARINA!
A multi-image post by lifestyle influencer Katarina Elle Zarutskie’s shows creating one of those epic travel shots of a model floating in turquoise waters can be risky - she was nibbled by sharks while doing it. One image shows her struggling in the water as she tries to regain her footing. No need to worry, though, these were not great whites or any other kind of sharks that could have made this into a “influencer dies for Instagram shot” article.
OH-SO-SEXY - UNTIL YOU GET PLONKED
Influencer, model and DJ Charly Jordan is known for posting sexy pictures and videos that show off her body. She does all this while jet-setting around the world - but it's not always as glamorous as it seems.
She was filming a steamy bikini video in an outdoor shower in Costa Rica recently when the showerhead fell on her.
Despite the embarrassment, Jordan posted the video on her feed and laughed off the incident with a caption reading, "When you get hit with that ‘k’ reply."
Her followers absolutely loved it. The video is one of her most watched, with over 2.7 million views.
