YouTube Music launches in SA, but how does the price compare?

YouTube's music streaming service YouTube Music launched in SA on Wednesday, offering music videos, official albums, singles, remixes, live performances and covers.

"While fans can enjoy the new ad-supported version of YouTube Music for free, YouTube has also announced YouTube Music Premium, a paid membership that gives you background listening, downloads and an ad-free experience for R59.99 a month," the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

The service offers playlists for genre, mood or activity and allows you to download music even if you have limited internet access.

You can track downs songs using descriptions, lyrics or emojis with the Smart Search which is available in Zulu and Xhosa.

Google SA marketing head Asha Patel said: "Nothing is changing with Google Play Music - you'll still be able to access all of your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like always."

YouTube was launched in May 2005.
