IF YOU HAVE 3.5 HOURS ...

Watch: The Irishman. It's been a long wait with high expectations, but on November 27 the wait will finally be over as Martin Scorsese's $150m (R2.2bn) Netflix epic arrives on the streaming service.

What's it about? Starring Robert de Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci, it's the legendary US director's elegy to the gangster genre he's made his own over the past four decades. Based on the book I Heard You Paint Houses, it's the story of Irish hitman for the Italian Mafia Frank Sheeran (De Niro) and his decades-long relationship with legendary Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino). Grab a lot of popcorn, sit back and prepare to be, by all accounts, pretty well blown away.

Watch: Maradona in Mexico

What's it about? In 2018 the world's greatest footballer and one of modern sport's most notorious characters, the pint-sized, narcissistic and indefatigable Diego Maradona went to Mexico to coach the Dorados club, located in one of the country's most violent and cartel-ridden regions. This is the story of what he did but it's also the most revealing portrait yet of Maradona, as a brilliant player and flawed man.

Watch: Catch-22

What's it about? George Clooney's miniseries adaptation of Joseph Heller's darkly comic novel about the absurdities of war features a stellar cast and all the sick jokes of its source material. It also provides the best screen adaptation of an enduring classic that still has too many depressingly relevant points to make about the futility and insanity of why we fight and its effects on those we send to do it for us.

Watch: The Crown, Season 3

What's it about? Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies and Helena Bonham Carter step into the roles of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip and Princess Margaret as Peter Morgan's dramatically satisfying tale of the British royals takes on the period from 1964-1977. Beginning with the election of Prime Minister Harold Wilson and ending with the celebration of the British monarch's silver jubilee, it's another beguiling and finely acted chapter in the history of one of the world's most recognisable and continuously fascinating families.
