Roxanne Robinson, Fashion editor of Sunday Times Fashion Weekly, is heading to Cape Town for the December holidays. Here's her pick of what to wear while relaxing on a sunny beach

1. SWIMMING COSTUME

One-piece swimsuits are the new bikinis and there are so many fun ones out there, like this graphic monochrome number.

Swimsuit, R370, Foschini.

2. SUNGLASSES AND 3. A HAT

I'm never the girl roasting in the sun for hours, I'm the pale covered-up girl under the umbrella (And, so, I'll also never be the girl resembling a leather handbag in years to come). A hat and a good pair of rose-tinted sunnies is a must!

Bucket hat, R40, Mr Price and Ray Ban sunglasses, R2,710, Luxottica.

4. SANDALS

During the holidays, I swap my sneakers and heels for sandals and flip flops. How good are these simple, colourful Moses sandals? You can wear them on the water's edge or at the beach bar.

Sandals, R799, Moses.

5. LILO

One of the biggest treats about being at the sea is lounging on a lilo in a tidal pool. There are so many fun ones around at the moment, pick from swans, watermelon slices and pizza slices - I opted for a donut.

Donut lilo, R299, Factorie (011-217-6000).

6. COVER-UP

Best part about going to the beach? Heading to the beach bar straight after your swim. Picking a cover-up that’s good-looking, but easy wearing and comfortable can be tricky – but how good is this one from Lalesso?

Kaftan, R1,680, Lalesso.

7. BEACH BAG

To carry my book, my sarmie or my deflated lilo, a tote is a must. I prefer mine to be cute and not too fancy.

Tote bag, R450, Colette by Colette Hayman (011-788-5530).
