Salima Abdel-Wahab's latest collection, shown at AFI Cape Town Fashion Week, is an expression of the plurality that characterises the African continent

Tell us about the history of your brand?
I was born and raised in Tangier, where the traditions of the West and East meet. That is what inspires me - the intermingling of different sources of identity.
What is the Salima Abdel-Wahab aesthetic?
It is one of plurality; an attempt to express as many aesthetics as there are personalities. I'm trying to create for a variety of people, temperaments and characters.
What is the story of the collection?
Each of the 15 creations is a key that opens the border of each country crossed. Each collection is both a continuation of my research and a new experience. But this collection can be characterised by looks that are very different from each other because they are representative of a journey through Africa.
What was the process of making this collection?
I let myself be guided by my intuition. Using the memory of images and objects, I was inspired to create the materials that I used for this collection.
