Eagerly awaited in the fashion world, the Met Gala is always an extravaganza of outrageous outfits.

Thanks to this year's theme, "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination", halos, angel wings and Papal hats were the accessories of choice for A-listers who stepped onto the red carpet in gowns and suits embellished with gold embroidery and crystals. 

From Rihanna and Jared Leto to Cardi B and Sarah Jessica Parker, here are some of the celebs who took the 'go big or go home' approach to their Met Gala outfits:
