SOCIALS | Dropping in as fashion wins by a lovely neck

Forget the limo; hold the blue lights. Yesterday, A-Plus-Listers followed former president Jacob Zuma's lead and landed at South Africa's biggest horseracing event in a helicopter.
Uber offered a select few the chance to be whisked to this year's Vodacom Durban July on one of its choppers.
And that's how I found myself making the journey from Virginia Airport to Greyville racecourse. It took less than 10 minutes.
After stepping out of the chopper, one of the first people I met was Hollywood personality Zuri Hall, glamorous co-anchor of E! News, the US entertainment and celebrity gossip TV show broadcast locally on DStv.
Zuri, looking slinky in a Gatsby-inspired, heavily beaded white dress, said her fashion goal is to "stand the test of time". She called her outfit, by local frockmaker Ryan Keys, "something timeless and elegant that can relate to any decade."
Zuri was holding court in one of the event's swishest marquees, the Chaise Lounge run by former auditor Mizana Qata, who posed for a photo with ANC heavyweight Malusi Zondo and Durban businesswoman Zama Phakathi, who wore glittering green.
Another early arrival was actress Rami Chuene, who plays Gracious Mabuza on The Queen, wearing a bold red lace Thula Sindi gown. Hard to believe she turned 43 last week.
I also met one of Mizana's good mates, Nozuko Mbalula, wife of former police minister Fikile. Nozuko, as usual, was wearing a dress she'd run up herself.
You might expect all eyes to be on the four-legged fillies for the 122nd running of the handicap, but we're always more interested in what the two-legged stars are wearing, particularly when it comes to our pair of Miss South Africas, Thulisa Keyi and Tamaryn Green.
Thuli went the traditional route in a red and nude ball gown but Tamaryn, judging by her canary-yellow catsuit by Galluzzi e Gini, is not one who follows the fashion pack. Also spotted at Chaise Lounge was celebrity KNaomi, who looked dazzling in a metallic gold suit.
Lerato Kganyago, whose new fashion reality show starts on Mzansi Magic on Tuesday, was one of the few who tried to stick to this year's theme, "It is Time", in a striking cream and black Gert-Johan Coetzee number. Lerato didn't have much time to place a flutter on the ponies: she had to DJ at six marquees throughout the day.
One person I didn't spot was the man known for his lavish soirées — businessman Vivian Reddy. It turns out the good mate of our own JZ was too busy picking up an award at Britain's House of Commons.
Much later in the day, I admired some of South Africa's finest talents, including Thandiswa Mazwai and Ringo Madlingozi, as they performed at The Glenlivet JazzTown. The glass-fronted marquee overlooking the racecourse hosted 900 guests, including Metro FM's Masechaba Ndlovu.
When it came to grub, lunch options included pulled slow-roasted pork with bay leaf and red wine jus, grilled chicken pieces in a yoghurt curry sauce, and Thai green vegetable curry. The late-night buffet featured butter chicken curry and Durban beef curry.
And for those with a sweet tooth? Mountains of seasonal fruit, choc brownies and fudge stretched into the distance as far as a horse can run...
